coaxial
Coaxial cable is a cable type that has inner conductors surrounded by tubular insulating layer, covered by a tubular conducting shield. It is used as a transmission line for radio frequency signals. Other applications include feedlines connecting radio transmitters and receivers with their antennas, computer network connections and distributing cable television signals.
optical
Optical fiber cables contain one or more optical fibers. The optical fiber elements are typically individually coated with plastic layers and contained in a protective tube suitable for the environment where the cable will be deployed. Optical fiber can be used as a medium for telecommunications and computer networking. It is especially advantageous for long distance communications. The per-channel light have been modulated at rates high as 111 Gbit/s although 10 or 40 Gbit/s is typical in deployed systems.
